The Monash Youth Survey Report 2024(PDF, 6MB)  addresses key priority areas from the Monash Health and Wellbeing Plan 2021-2025: loneliness, mental health, gender equity and discrimination.

To ensure the survey’s relevance, a working group of young people co-designed the survey with Monash Youth Services (MYS) and subject matter experts from Monash Council.

More than 2,000 young people between the ages of 10 to 25 shared their experiences in the survey, providing a snapshot of youth life in the City of Monash. The findings support Council in assessing and responding to the current needs of young people in the community.

About the report

The 2024 report explores inclusion, connections to local community, participation in sports and physical activity, and many other timely concerns.

Mental health and coping with stress emerge as key issues for many young people, with schoolwork, high expectations and overthinking being some of the top contributors to stress.

Discrimination is also a significant topic, with more than half of respondents reporting they had either faced discrimination personally (21%) or knew someone who had (32%).

These insights offer a starting point for meaningful dialogues with young people in the aim of supporting their wellbeing.

About the Monash Youth Survey

Held every 2 years, the Monash Youth Survey lets young people in the City of Monash have an active voice in their concerns and an opportunity to inform Council’s decisions and plans.
